OYSTER and SCALLOP Recycling Program
Fishcreek is proud to be a lead Partner with Marine Discovery Center’s Shuck and Share recycling program in Citrus County, FL. We collect oyster and scallop shells from partner restaurants and organizations and serve as a public drop-off for shucked shells. Once enough shells are collected, they are transported to Marine Discovery Center or used in local restoration projects.
The oyster and scallop collection center is located at
1650 S. Fishcreek Pt, Crystal River, FL.
The Shuck and Share Oyster Recycling Program recycles oyster shells from local restaurants to keep them out of the landfill and to use them in shoreline restoration sites around the east coast of Florida. Over 350,000lbs of oyster shell has already made its way back into the ecosystem to become habitat for a variety of species of plants and animals.
Don’t Toss Your Scallop Shells
The negative impacts that come from improper disposal of scallop shells include suffocation of vegetation, damage to habitat, and hazards to humans walking and swimming in springs. All of these effects can lead to a drastic change in water quality, spring ecosystem, and recreational activities. (Seriously, they hurt our tender toes). Visit FWC for more Info
